The
Concert Hall in Västerås - the flexible hall
This hall opened in September 2002 and has been very much appreciated
by the listeners in the auditorium as well as the musicians on the stage.
Recording engineers also praise it for the acoustics. It was constructed
and built in a short time with very small expenses, yet it turned out
to become one of the best concert halls in Scandinavia. There are 917
seats and the size of the stage is 200 m2. The hall is one of few music
halls in the world that really works for all different kinds of music,
partly because of the acoustical flexibility, including stage reflectors
that are adjustable in height and 220 doors into diffusing chambers. The
doors can be rotated and will work as diffusing elements and behind them
curtains can be withdrawn to increase the damping effect. The building
also holds a small hall for chamber music, jazz etc. Also this hall has
become a success thanks to its acoustics.

The
Community Cultural centre "Dunkers Kulturhus" in Helsingborg
The Danish architect Kim Utzon designed this building and it has attracted
much attention for its architecture as well as for its capacities. It
includes facilities for a large city music school with practice rooms,
small rehearsal rooms and a recording studio. Besides, there are large
exhibition halls, a flexible theatre with 120 seats and much more. The
picture shows the concert hall, a chamber music hall with 330 seats, which
is very much appreciated for its good acoustical qualities and for its
flexibility. The reverberation time can be varied between 1,2 and 1,7
seconds using acoustic curtains. The planning is quite special with the
audience placed on three sides of the stage. The picture shows the chamber
music orchestra "Huaröds kammarorkester" on the stage.
From the windows by the stage there is a fine prospect towards Öresund.

The
City Theatre in Göteborg - rebuilding and expansion
The Göteborg City Theatre has been rebuilt in an important way, where
the audience area has been much altered in order to, among other targets,
enhance the acoustics. With a totally new shape of the reflectors, the
covering of walls with textiles, and other actions taken, the acoustics
of the auditorium has been improved to a much higher quality. The speech
intelligibility is very good even in areas where speech apprehension used
to be poor. New sound-equipment and a stage control planned by Akustikon
AB was installed on the main stage.

Auditorium/concert
hall, Karlstad University Library
Karlstad University wanted a hall that was suitable for both speech and
music, and this was realised as a combination of a concert hall and an
auditorium, with room for 600 people. Hence, the reverberation time is
rather long, approximately 1,9 seconds, which can be reduced to 1,4 seconds
using acoustical curtains, situated along the upper parts of the walls.
This stage has already become the main stage for the performances of Värmland
Classic Festival, and the Värmlands Sinfonietta gives a great deal
of its concerts here.

The
Cultural Centre "Kulturbruket" in Mellerud
The new secondary school in "Kulturbruket" includes much more
than just a school, for example a concert hall for both the local music
activities and performances of visiting groups and artists. This small
concert hall for approximately 300 people with its nice acoustics has
become a real success for the small town Mellerud.
